Playing With Pages: Making Books into Art
Sundays – April 6, 13, 20, 27 2-4 p.m. Instructor: Sue Kalicki
Fee: $70, book and design materials included. Bring your own photographs and scrapbook materials to include in your book.

You can use your creativity to turn an existing book into a unique, personal work of art! Think of it as scrapbooking, taken to a whole new level! In this Altered Book workshop, you will learn how to prepare a book for altering, as well as various techniques for adding color, images, and embellishments to the book. You will be provided a book and basic supplies for beginning your artistic journey. You are invited to bring pictures, favorite art materials, or personal items that you would like to include in your book. (You may want to bring duplicate photos or photocopies of your pictures, as we will be cutting and/or gluing them into books.) Come join us for an inspiring and creative class!

Batik Collage Shirt Design
Thursdays April 10, 17 and 24 6 -7:30 p.m.
Fee: $40, will need to purchase minimal supplies and bring own shirt Instructor: Kelly Lesser
Learn to use a combination of resist and tie dye to create an attractive batik collage shirt. Bring in your own shirt (100% cotton, prewashed with no fabric softener ) and learn the basics of dye and batik to make it a real work of art.

Introduction to Watercolor Painting
Tuesdays, April 15, 22, 29 and May 6 6-8 p.m.

Art Show: Friday, May 9 6:30 -7:30 p.m.
In this introductory class you will learn how to make the translucent qualities of watercolor work for you. You will learn several watercolor techniques and also how to use color and value in your artwork. You’ll also work in several watercolor mediums and complete at least two paintings for the art show. If you’ve ever wanted to work in watercolor, this class is for you.

Stained Glass Suncatcher
Sundays, May 18 and 25 2-4 p.m.
Fee: $70, includes all supplies to create one suncatcher Instructor: Kelly Lesser

Make a stunning suncatcher as an amazing gift or to keep for yourself. This class will introduce glass cutting and foil wrapping techniques. On day two, we will solder the edges of our pieces and connect them with beaded embellishments. This is an ideal introduction to stained glass class for anyone who has ever considered taking up this terrific art form.

Drawing 102: Beginning Drawing With Color
Mondays – April 21, 28 and May 5, 12, 19 4:30 -6:30
Art Show: Thursday, May 22 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Instructor: Tracy Glantz
Fee: $120, will need to purchase supply kit

Students will be looking at color and how it interacts with value and intensity. They will have a chance to practice using value scales and blending colored pencils and pastels. They will also create a larger drawing for the artist gallery show at Arts and Minds. Bring your friends and family to see your best work and then take all your art pieces home.

ART EXPLORATION 3rd Thursday of Each Month 6-8 p.m. Each class limited to 20 students

Join us for an evening of free creativity featuring a different art medium each month. This is a great class for artists of all ages to be artistic with the featured medium. An instructor will answer questions and offer suggestions. Register early and save!

Family Fun Saturday – Colorful Painted Fish Windsocks

This is a great opportunity to get artistic with your favorite young person! Join us for this fun class where you will create two terrific fish windsocks and paint them in your own design. These bright fish friends are great for displaying outdoors or indoors. What a wonderful way to celebrate Spring.

Art Around The World
June 16 -20 10 a.m.– Noon and 5:30 -7:30 p.m.

Take a whirlwind trip around the world on Arts & Minds Airlines. First stop – Mexico, then on to Japan, Australia, Europe and finally Turkey. We will look at the unique landmarks and features of each place we visit as well as some of their folk art traditions. We will create replicas of traditional folk art from each area.

Where the Wild Things Are
June 23 -27 10 a.m. – Noon
Fee: $150, includes all art supplies
Instructor: Kelly Lesser

An exploration of mask-making from around the world. We will look at books and videos about Mardi Gras celebrations, African tribal customs, and Totems in the Pacific Northwest. Students will design
masks with paper, window screen and metal. The class will conclude with students making a mask
to represents their individual personality.

Puppet Making
July 14-18 3:30 – 5 p.m. and 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Fee: $120, includes all supplies

Learn about and create your own puppets. We’ll create sock puppets, finger puppets and everything in between. Then let your imagination run wild as we put on our own puppet shows at the end of class.

Action Painting
June 16 -20 1-3 p.m.

Have a blast creating unique painting masterpieces with the help of balloons, marbles, squirt guns and your feet! We will experiment with different ways to apply paint without using a paintbrush. Old clothes are recommended, because the paint will fly in this class!

That Artwork Looks Delicious

Who says you can’t play your food? In this unique class you will create paintings and sculptures with crazy materials like chocolate syrup and marshmallows. In each session, you will learn about a new Pop artist and create a project either based on food or made with food. How delicious!

Clay Beads, Bears and More

Get creative with clay and make a variety of colorful beads. Then you’ll build a collection of adorable bears and even sculpt a wonderful clay trinket box. You’ll learn a variety of techiques for simple sculpture. It’s fun with clay every day!

1 and 2 Point Perspective
June 23 -27 3:30 - 5 p.m.

Develop a working understanding of one and two point perspective. Discover vanishing points and horizon lines. Learn how to draw a city as if you’re flying overhead and then decorate the city buildings. Finally, you’ll become an architect and design your own dream house.

In this introductory class you will learn how to make the translucent qualities of watercolor work for you. Learn several watercolor techniques and complete at least two paintings – one with a Cubistic flair and additional paintings with a loose brush style. You can then apply any of the techniques to create a one-of-a-kind greeting card.

Impressive Impasto Painting
July 14 -18 1- 3 p.m.

Do you love to experiment with color and texture? Join us in exploring the endless possibilities of impasto painting! In this class you will create a series of abstract impasto paintings on various items including stretched canvas and trinket boxes. You’ll learn how to create interesting textures, use basic color theory knowledge, and perfect your your color washing technique.

Making Art Mosaics
July 21- 25 3:30 - 5 p.m.

Make an amazing work of art with mixed media. You’ll use glass, clay, paint and more to customize this
three dimensional masterpiece. It’s a great class for anyone who loves multiple art forms.

PRAIRIE WINDS ART CENTER OFFERS
ADULT AND CHILDREN'S ART CLASSES

The Prairie Winds Art Center , 112 W. Third Street, Grand Island, NE. 68801 announces their next art classes schedule. Registrations are now being taken for:
Adult Art Classes will begin on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. This class will be taught by professional artist, Cindy Duff, and will stress good composition, principles and elements of design, and painting techniques of various medium's such as water color, oil, or acrylic. This class is available for middle school through adult art students.
Children's Art Classes will begin on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 from 3:30-5:50 p.m. for five consecutive weeks. This is for children now in grades 1 through 5. The classes will be taught by a different professional artist each week. Instructors are Jean Satterly, Karen Robart, Cindy Duff, Charl Ann Mitchell, Dee Rodgers and Donna Ryan. The children will do and take home a finished project each week and will have a show in the upstairs gallery at the end of their five week session.

Early registration for both adult and children's classes is recommended because the class sizes are limited.
